Rejection prompts stalker to assault teenage girl
Turning down the marriage proposal of a long-term boyfriend was all it took for him to reveal his true colours to a 15-year-old girl in Cox's Bazar. Enraged by the refusal, the 26-year-old man took a sharp weapon to the girl's face, arms, and abdomen. The incident occurred on Saturday night when Jahedul, the spurned beau, called the victim out of her house. According to locals, Jahedul recently had been frequently asking the girl to marry her. The girl had always rebuffed him, saying she would do so only when she reached the suitable age for marriage and completed her studies. The victim, a student of Kalarmarchhora Ideal Madrasa in Moheshkhali, had been seeing her assailant for over four years. The attacker, Jahedul Islam, is a student at Hashemia Madrasa in Cox's Bazar.

With multiple slash wounds to the abdomen, face, and arms, the 15-year-old was first taken to Moheshkhali Upazila Health Complex and then to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. She is now being treated at the hospital’s One-Stop Crisis Centre. When contacted, Jahed denied attacking her, claiming: “We have been in a relationship for many years now. On Saturday, I attempted to commit suicide since her family had arranged her marriage.” His father Lokman claimed that he was not aware of the incident. “If it is true that my son committed such a crime, he must be punished. I will take my son to the police station today [Tuesday] and urge the police to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident,” he told the Dhaka Tribune. The hospital’s OCC Programme Officer Md Shah Jalal said that they would provide legal support to the victim’s family if they asked for any assistance. The girl’s uncle Helal Uddin said that he had lodged a case with Moheshkhali police against six people including Jahed, his brother Md Rasel and father Lokman Monday night. OC Pradip Kumar said that they had recorded the complaint on Tuesday morning and were trying to arrest the main accused.
