Mosharraf, a former police official, gave statement to the investigation officer (IO) of the gruesome murder case when Detective Branch’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mohammed Kamruzzaman of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) went to his home in the capital on Sunday to talk to the family members of Mitu.
“The IO came to my house and talked with us including my younger daughter Shayela Mosharraf Ninja. We told IO all the things we knew regarding Mitu’s life,” Mosharraf told the Dhaka Tribune.
“The IO asked Ninja about Mitu’s marital life,” he said.
Mosharraf told the Dhaka Tribune he suspected that Babul might try to leave the country but he had not said this to the IO.
“Ninja informed the IO that Mitu told her that Babul’s parents used to torture Mitu physically and mentally while Babul’s sister Labony had tried to marry off her brother again with Bonny.
“The extramarital affair issue came to light but Mitu’s mother and sister did not tell me this,” Mosharraf added.
He further said: “In our recent visit to Chittagong, we learned from the neighbours and Mitu's maid that she had tried to come back to my house and later tried to commit suicide by hanging herself in her flat because of the torture by Babul’s family.
“We asked Babul about this but he would not say anything.”
Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, mother of two children, was stabbed and shot to death near her house by three motorbike riders in the GEC area on June 5, 2016 while she was waiting with her son Akter Mahmud Maheer for his school bus.
After the incident, Babul stayed in his father-in-law's home in Dhaka for some time, but then left with his children after joining a hospital in the city.
Police sources said ADC Kamruzzaman arrived at Mosharraf Hossain's house around 12pm and stayed there until 3:45pm. The IO left the house at around 4pm said the sources.
Contacted, ADC Kamruzzaman refused to comment on what Mitu's family had said to him.
