First time rectal gold carrier caught at Dhaka airport
They have detained Russell Khan (32), son of one Ashraf Khan of Chittagong’s Raozan, who had the gold hidden in his rectum. Customs Intelligence DG Moinul Khan confirmed that Russell had been detained on Monday morning for attempting to smuggle in 12 gold bars from Dubai. Russell claimed that someone else had left the goods under seat 11B of Biman Bangladesh flight BG 0048 flying from Dubai to Dhaka. He had been instructed to board the plane and insert the gold in his rectum to evade detection. According to him, this was his first attempt at smuggling gold.

On receiving an anonymous tip, Customs Intelligence identified Russell and brought him in for interrogation. Their suspicions were confirmed after making Russell walk through the metal detector. Initially, Russell denied carrying any gold, but soon he started showing signs of severe illness and finally confessed. The 12 gold bars weighed 1.39kg in total and have an estimated value of Tk68 lakh. DG Moinul said a case has been filed in this regard.
