Hasibur Rahman Swapan, an MP from Sirgajganj, reiterated his initial allegation against Miru when appointing Nurunnahar Khatun, wife of Samakal’s slain journalist, at Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) on February 10.
Miru’s freedom-fighter allowance has been suspended for nine months in light of Swapan’s allegations.
He said: “I am sure that Miru is a fake freedom fighter. He bribed officials for the certificates.”
“It was unearthed after scrutiny of Shahjadpur freedom fighters. A request has been sent to remove Miru’s name from the list,” Hasibur said.
Samakal’s local correspondent Shimul was shot during a clash between two ruling party factions of on February 2. One faction belonged to Miru’s brother Pintu.
Shimul died of his injuries the following day while being taken to Dhaka.
Although Miru claimed that there was gunfire from both sides, police investigation found that the bullets had been fired from the mayor’s gun only.
