RAB busts kidnapping gang in Jamalpur

Update : 10 Feb 2017, 05:28 PM
“A gang has long been kidnapping people from various parts of the country and collecting ransom by keeping them hostage in Jamalpur's Dewanganj and Islampur areas,” RAB 14 Captain Lt Col Shariful Islam said at a press briefing on Friday morning. Pretending to be customers, the members of the gang called up two technicians – Md Roni and Fuad – from an A/C repair workstation named Swift Tex Sulkan in Dhaka's Gulshan. The duo were held hostage and kept in a remote char area in Jamalpur called Futani Bazar. “The gang then demanded a Tk2 lakh ransom from the store's owner.” Informed by store manager Yakub Ali, RAB 14 Company Captain Hayatul Islam Khan raided the area and rescued the hostages early Friday. RAB detained three members of the gang – Sajjad Hossain, Anwar Hossain and Badal Sheikh. They also recovered five foreign-made pistols, five mobile phones and Tk16,450 cash. The detainees are accused in several cases, including charges of murder, abduction and mugging, RAB claims.
