“Whether they are government officials or private individuals will have no bearing on the legal system,” the minister said, without mentioning Halimul Haque Miru, mayor of Shahzadpur municipality in Sirajganj.
Miru, an Awami League leader, allegedly discharged bullets from his licensed firearm during a clash between opposing factions of the party on February 3.
Daily Samakal journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul suffered gunshot wounds at the incident, which led to his death on the same day.
Regarding the murder case of Babul Akhter's wife Mitu, the minister said police are investigating the murder and are hopeful about shortly submitting a report to the court.
However, our Chittagong correspondent said the main accused of the case, Babul Akhter's informer Musa, was still an abscondee and the case might take a long time to solve.
