Two policemen including an assistant sub-inspector have been injured in an attack by miscreants in Dhaka’s Bongshal area.
The injured are Bangshal police out-post ASI Nuruzzaman and constable Rafiqul Alam. Rafiqul was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Nuruzzaman taken to Midford Hospital.
DMCH police outpost In-Charge Bachchu Mia said: “Rafiqul suffered minor burn injuries on his cheek.”
Bongshal OC Nure Alam Siddique told the Dhaka Tribune: “Three people riding on a motorcycle threw acid at Rafiqul and hit Nurruzzaman on his head with a bottle when they were signalled to stop at the check post around Wednesday midnight.
“Their faces were covered and even the number plate of the motorcycle was covered with a black piece of cloth.”
One of the riders, Jubair, 26, was shot in the leg but his two other cohorts managed to flee the scene, police said.
Jubair has been admitted to Pongu Hospital.
Later police recovered acid, gun powder and a torchlight from the spot.
The OC said: “We are primarily suspecting that the riders might have militant links.”
Earlier in the day, four suspected members of a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion from Jatrabari.
Asked if the two incidents were connected, OC Nure Alam said: “The incidents might be linked but we are not sure. The detectives are investigating the matter.”
