Marjan's parents do not regret his death
One of the most wanted militants in the country, Marjan, 22, was killed with another high-profile militant named Saddam Hossain in a gunfight with a team of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of police in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area yesterday, according to CTTC officials. Police claim Marjan coordinated the deadly terror attack on Gulshan's Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, which killed 23 people including 17 foreign nationals and two police officials. “My son reaped what he sowed. He suffered the consequences of the terrible choices he made,” said Marjan's father Nizam while speaking to reporters on Friday.

As the news of Marjan's death broke out around 8:30am on Friday, neighbours and relatives started pouring into his family home in Afuria Patkiabari, a village under Hemayetpur union of Sadar upazila in Pabna. His family members and relatives said they were not shocked by the news, and justice had been served. “He [Marjan] betrayed his country. I am happy with his punishment,” said his mother Salma, before breaking down in tears. Denouncing their son's actions as a militant, his parents demanded the highest punishment for those who had led him to terrorism.

"Marjan was brilliant; we had high hopes for him. The government must take action to punish those who led him astray,” said Nizam. They also urged the government to hand his wife and infant daughter over to the family. Nizam said he would like to have Marjan's dead body for burial. “But I do not have money to go to Dhaka and claim his body. If the law enforcement officials send his body to the village, we will receive the body,” he added. Marjan's wife Afrin Akhter alias Prioti alias Fatema Ferdous was arrested during a CTTC drive in Azimpur on September 10 along with other New JMB leaders. She gave birth to their daughter on December 20 in Dhaka while in police custody.
