The arrestee was identified as Yousuf Ali, who worked as a senior reporter at a private television channel.
According to the case statement, the victim's husband said that his wife works as a journalist and, for the purposes of her job, she met Yousuf in 2012. After the introduction, Yousuf began harassing the victim and made untoward advances towards her. After she rejected his advances, Yousuf opened a fake Facebook ID under her husband’s name, and used it to post indecent photos and offensive remarks.
Despite several warnings to cease his harassment, Yousuf opened a second fake Facebook ID, this time in the name of the wife, and continued posting offensive images and remarks. The accused then began sending offensive remarks and images to both the husband and wife's phones.
The victim's husband filed a case against Yousuf Ali on November 2nd at Khilgaon police station, under the ICT act. On the basis of the case, a team of DB police arrested him at Tajgoan Hatjheel in Dhaka, on Saturday night.
Dhaka metropolitan police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman confirmed this to Dhaka Tribune and said that they arrested Yousuf on the allegations of cyber harassment.
“The police is investigating the matter”, he added.
