SUST expels Badrul

The decision was taken today at the syndicate meeting presided over by SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haq Bhuiya.

The disciplinary committee requested the syndicate to expel him.

Dr Kabir, a syndicate member, said: “We decided to expel Badrul during the meeting.”

Earlier, SUST authorities suspended Badrul following a meeting of the university proctorial body.

The proctorial body also formed a three-member committee led by acting proctor Rashed Talukder to investigate the attack.

Badrul attacked Khadiza, a second-year Bachelor’s student of Sylhet Government Women's College, on October 3 and severely injured her.

He was caught on the spot and handed over to the police on the very day. He confessed to his crimes the next day in court. A charge-sheet is to be filed later this week.

Meanwhile, the Chhatra League unit of SUST claimed that it had no affiliations with the heinous assailant.

“Badrul is currently employed at Alhaj Ayazur Rahman High School, and according to the organisation’s charter, job holders cannot remain members of this organisation,” said a press statement issued by Chhatra League.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki said the culprit would not be exempted from justice under any circumstances.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said necessary steps would be taken for a quick trial of Badrul.
