Hacking Khadiza: Perpetrator Badrul confesses in court

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) student  Badrul Alam has confessed in court to assaulting Khadiza Akhter Nargis for refusing his advances. On Monday, Badrul professed his feelings to Khadiza in the morning but she rejected him, which led him to attempt to kill her, Sylhet Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner Jedan Al Musa told the Dhaka Tribune. He gave the confessional statement at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Umme Sharaban Tahura on Wednesday. The ADC said according to the confession, Badrul lived at Khadiza's home as a lodger after his admission to SUST in 2009. He became involved with Khadiza during this time.

Khadiza's family threw Badrul out after learning of this relationship. She too, began avoiding him after this, according to Badrul. Badrul said he ran to Sylhet MC College campus when he heard Khadiza was attending an exam there. He professed his love for Khadiza again and offered her a bottle of water. He used this machete to attempt to kill Khadiza. Badrul told the court he felt regret for his actions. The confession was recorded in the magistrate's chamber in the afternoon, after which the court ordered him sent to jail.

School sacks Badrul

The Alhaj Ayajur Rahman High School in Chhatak, Sunamganj where Badrul was a part-time teacher has sacked him. The school's managing committee chairman Mokhlesur Rahman said Badrul joined the school as a part time teacher in February 2014. He said the school committee had permanently sacked Badrul on Tuesday after learning of his crime. After being attacked by Badrul, who hacked at her repeatedly with a machete, Sylhet Women's College second year student Khadiza Akhter Nargis is now admitted to Square Hospital in Dhaka in critical condition.
