Yaba consumption equipment and 2,000 yaba pills were recovered from the accused in 2015
A Kushtia court on Sunday sentenced a doctor to 15 years imprisonment in a drugs case.
Accused Asaduzzaman Firoz, resident medical officer of Kushtia Government TB Hospital, was also fined Tk50,000 and sentenced to one more year of imprisonment for failing to make the payment.
He was present in the court when Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Tajul Islam announced the verdict, according to media reports.
Later, the doctor was sent to the district jail.
According to case documents, police detained Asaduzzaman, Joynal Abedin Joy and Naharul Islam while they were under the influence of yaba during an anti-drug raid at Nazarul Malithar mill in Mirpur upazila on September 13, 2015.
Yaba consumption equipment and 2,000 yaba pills were recovered after the detainees and their homes were searched.
The court acquitted Joynal and Naharul as the allegations against them could not be proven.
The case was filed under the Narcotics Act with Mirpur police station in 2015.
