Another accused handed 10 years in jail
A Comilla court has sentenced four people to death and one to ten years in prison for killing an army official in Comilla.
The victim, Abdur Rahman, 24, an army official working at Bogra Cantonment, was hacked to death by miscreants on 21 October, 2016,
The four accused sentenced to death – Sirajul Islam, 40, Jony, 23, Ujjal Miah, 20, and Pradeep Das, 22 – were also fined Tk1 lakh each, reports Bangla Tribune.
Comilla District and Sessions Judge Rozina Khan delivered the verdict on Monday, confirmed Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Sheikh Masud Iqbal Mazumdar.
“Besides, Ali Akkas, 35, another accused in the case, will serve 10 years in jail for the murder,” said APP Iqbal, also the state counsel for the case.
However, all of the accused are currently in jail, except for Ali Akkas, who is on the run.
APP Iqbal said: “On 21 October, 2016, Abdur Rahman was travelling from his home to Bogra. The next day, on 22 October, Abdur’s family learnt that his hacked up body had been found near the Comilla Nangolkot Railway Station.
“Later Laksam railway police station recovered the body of Abdur and sent it for autopsy. The victim’s father, Hafez Maulana mofizul Islam, filed a murder case with the Laksam railway police station the same day. Later, police arrested those accused of the murder after investigation.”
