A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to film director Anonno Mamun and actor Shaheen Mridha in a case filed under the Pornography Control Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman issued the order after a hearing on the bail petition submitted by defence counsel Saidur Rahman Manik.

Sub-Inspector Md Nizam Uddin, general recording officer of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier last year, on December 27, Mamun and Shaheen were arrested and charged after a scene depicting police harshly interrogating a rape victim and highlighting attitudes towards violence against women in a conservative society aroused the ire of the force.

The first half of "Nabab LLB," a fictional courtroom drama about rape and the treatment of victims starring Shakib Khan, was released on a local streaming service in mid-December.

The scene from the movie, directed by Anonno Mamun, went viral on social media last week, with criticism directed at police over their handling of the case.

Md. Nasirul Amin, inspector of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Cyber Crime Unit, filed a case against the two under the Pornography Control Act with Ramna police station.
