Defence lawyer claims the case was aimed at harassing the businessman
Md Noor Ali, the managing director (MD) of Unique Group, and his wife Selina Ali have been granted bail in a case filed over alleged fraud and misappropriation of money over the purchase of an apartment in the capital.
Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Asaduzzaman Nur passed the bail order after the couple filed a plea at his court on Tuesday, said defence lawyer Shah Alam Talukder, claiming that the case was aimed at harassing the businessman.
Selim Ahmed, chairman of Jalal Ahmed Spinning Mill and Shah Fateullah Textile Mills, filed the case with the same court on February 24, 2019 over a dispute centring on the registration of the apartment at a multistorey building developed by a real estate company of Noor Ali at New Eskaton.
On Monday, the court issued an arrest warrant against the two accused of not appearing before it during a hearing in the case.
According to the case dockets, the Unique Group MD took Tk2.93 crore from Selim Ahmed for the apartment (commercial space) on the 13th floor of the 20-storey building named Unique Heights. The apartment was handed over to Selim Ahmed on November 25, 2015.
As the plaintiff did not get registration of the property despite repeated attempts, he took the legal measure, the case statement says.
During the bail hearing, defence counsel Shah Alam Talukder said: "The plaintiff filed the case to cover up his guilt. He is enjoying the accommodation on the apartment, without getting it registered on time."
“There are more apartment recipients at that project, who got their property registered on time. So, this is just a case to harass my clients,” he added.
