The victim’s family members were not satisfied with the verdict and said they would appeal to the higher court for a proper conviction
Three people have been sentenced to death by a court in Bogra for hacking a businessman to death back in 2017.
Bogra District and Sessions Court Judge Naresh Chandra Sarker pronounced the sentence in the presence of the convicts on Tuesday afternoon and also fined them Tk10,000 each.
The convicts are Maruf Raihan alias Milon, 38, Md Manik, 25, and Saidi, 27.
The court released five other accused in the case, whose involvement could not be proved beyond doubt.
However, the plaintiffs of the case, the victim’s family members, were not satisfied with the verdict and said they would appeal to the higher court for a proper conviction.
They claimed the court had released the five accused, although they gave confessional statements before it under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The released five people are Jahrul Haque Mandal, Md. Sujan, Shaon alias Sajib, Shahinur Rahman and Kazim Hossain.
The case statement says that on April 16, 2017, accused Sujan along with the three convicts reportedly took the deceased, Hazrat Ali, to Mandalpara and hacked him to death following instructions from Jahrul Islam.
Following the murder, the mother of the deceased registered a case accusing the eight people.
