The High Court has directed the relevant trial court to finish trial proceedings of the corruption case against former  minister of state Lutfozzaman Babar within 30 days.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Babar, seeking transfer from the trial court.

To comply with the order, the Dhaka Special Judge Court 7 must finish trial proceedings of the case within 30 days of receiving the order.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state in the case. Advocate Parvez Hossain stood for Babar.

According to the petition, the ACC filed the case with Ramna Model police station on January 13, 2008 against Babar on charges related to amassing illegal wealth worth Tk7.5 crore. The commission submitted the charge sheet against Babar to the lower court on July 16, 2008.

The trial court fixed November 15 for the next hearing on the case.

Babar has been convicted and sentenced to death in the sensational 10-truck arms haul case and the August 21 grenade attack case.
