A defamation case has been filed in Chandpur against 4 journalists including Prothom Alo Editor Motiur Rahman on the allegations of carrying confusing and defamatory reports in his Bangla-language daily against former home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir.
Helal Uddin, former Kuchua upazila vice chairman and the member of district’s law and order committee, filed a Tk-100 crore defamation case with the court of Chandpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Kamal Hossain on Sunday.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the court asked the district’s additional superintendent of police to investigate the matter.
The other accused are reporters Sharifuzzam, Masud Rana, and Iftekhar Mahmud of the Bangla-language daily.
In his complaint Helal Uddin stated that the accused in collusion with each other published two reports titled as “Ekti onumodonhin hospital (An unauthorized hospital) on July 30 and Onner Riner Takai kena Mohiuddiner hospital” (Mohiuddin's hospital bought with the loan money of others) on September 4.
The plaintiff claimed that the stories were false, fabricated, and baseless which defamed Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir. He sought Tk 100 crore as compensation.
Regarding the case, plaintiff Helal Uddin said: “ Chandpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Kamal Hossain has taken the case into cognizance and asked the additional superintendent of police to investigate. I hope the actual incident will be revealed through proper investigation.”
