The bail order will continue until the next hearing of the case
Journalist Sushanta Das Gupta, editor and publisher of local newspaper Dainik Amar Habiganj, has been released from jail.
He was arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Raihan Uddin Sumon, news editor of Dainik Amar Habiganj, said Sushanta was released around 12:30 pm on Thursday.
The High Court granted an ad-interim bail to Sushanta on June 14.
The bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal, during a virtual hearing, passed the order following a bail petition filed by Sushanta.
Supreme Court Bar Association's President Advocate AM Amin Uddin stood for the bail petition.
The lawyer said the bail order will continue until the next hearing of the case, to be held before a regular High Court bench, when it reopens after the ongoing general holidays.
On May 21, police arrested journalist Sushanta Das Gupta from Chirakandi area in Habiganj Sadar upazila. Later, he was sent to the jail following a court order.
Earlier, Habiganj Press Club General Secretary Sayeduzzaman Zahir filed a case against four people, including Sushanta and Raihan, with Habiganj Sadar police station.
According to the case statement, the accused published fake news about Habiganj-3 lawmaker Md Abu Zahir on Dainik Amar Habiganj and shared it on Facebook.
