The vice chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has sent the medical report on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's latest health condition to the apex court.

Muhammad Saifur Rahman, special officer and the spokesperson of the Supreme Court, said the report has reached the Registrar General Office on Wednesday.

On February 23, the High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque asked the BSMMU VC to submit the report by 5pm on Wednesday through the registrar general of the Supreme Court.

The court also set Thursday for holding a hearing on Khaleda's bail petition in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

On February 18, the BNP chief filed a fresh petition with the High Court seeking bail in the case, citing illness.

It was mentioned in the petition that the BNP chairperson was seriously ill and needed advanced treatment.

On December 12, 2019, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court turned down the bail petition of Khaleda Zia in the graft case.

A Dhaka special court jailed the BNP chief and three others for seven years in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case on October 29, 2018.

Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018.

The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since April 1, 2019.
