Khaleda, a three-time former prime minister, has been in prison since February last year
Legal counsels of Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia have said filing bail petitions with the apex court is now being considered to ensure her release from prison.
While speaking to the media at the Supreme Court premises on Sunday morning, Khaleda's panel lawyer Advocate Zainul Abedin said that the decision in this regard will be taken within one or two days.
Meanwhile, Barrister Ehsanur Rahman, another member of the Khaleda's legal panel, said two bail petitions are needed in order to ensure Khaleda’s release from jail. One petition will be filed with the Appellate Division for the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and the other with the High Court division for Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Khaleda, a three-time former prime minister, has been in prison since February last year, serving a total of 17 years in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.
The 74-year-old was transferred to the BSMMU Hospital on April 1 this year for treatment from the old central jail on Nazim Uddin Road, and has been there since then.
