A Dhaka court has accepted the charge sheet against suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman and suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Khandaker Enamul Basir in a bribery case.

Judge KM Imrul Kayes of the Dhaka Senior Special Judge's Court on Sunday took the charge sheet into cognizance in presence of the two accused.

The court also transferred the case documents to Dhaka Special Judge Court 4 for quick trial and fixed April 4 for hearing on charge framing against them in the case.

On January 19, ACC Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafillah submitted the charge sheet against Mizanur Rahman and Enamul Basir to the Dhaka Senior Special Judge's court.

According to an ACC inquiry, Basir took Tk40 lakh from the police official Mizan to exclude the latter's name from a charge sheet of a graft case.

The accused have been charged in the bribery case under Sections 161/165(A)/109 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 5 (2) of the Money Laundering Act.

Earlier on July 16, 2019, ACC Director Fanafillah filed the case with its Integrated District Office 1 in Dhaka and also worked on the case as the investigative officer.

On July 21, suspended DIG Mizan, who was sent to jail by the High Court earlier, was shown arrested in the case.

Disgraced police officer Mizan in a television interview, claimed that ACC official Basir took Tk40 lakh in bribes from him, promising that he would be given a clean chit in the graft case.

Basir also divulged probe details during the investigation, according to ACC officials.

Audio clips of mobile conversations between Mizan and Basir were also aired on television.

Basir refuted the allegations and said that the DIG had supplied a forged clip to a television channel, using an imitation of his voice.

Basir was removed from his office and replaced by ACC Director Md Monzur Morshed after the allegations surfaced.

Both Mizan and Basir were subsequently suspended by their respective institutions.
