The hearing will be held at the newly-built temporary court in front of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj

A Dhaka court has set January 8 to hold hearing on charge framing in the Gatco graft case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others.

Judge Syed Dilzar Hossain of Special Judge Court 3 on Wednesday reset the date for holding the hearing at the newly-constructed temporary court in front of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, reports BSS.

Wednesday was set for holding the indictment hearing, but the jail authorities couldn’t produce Khaleda before the court, as she is undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed the case against 13 people on September 2, 2007 at Tejgaon police station, for their role in corruption by penning a contract with Global Agro Trade (Pvt) Co Ltd (Gatco) for container management at inland container depots in Dhaka and Chittagong.

The charge sheet was submitted against 24 on May 13, 2008.

However, of the 24 accused, six including Khaleda’s younger son Arafat Rahman Coco, Saifur Rahman and Matiur Rahman Nizami have died so far.
