A Dhaka court has set December 3 for submitting the probe report in two cases filed against Ward Councilor Tarekuzzaman Rajib for possessing illegal arms and narcotics.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondal issued the order when investigation agency Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) failed to submit a timely report and pleaded on Sunday to allow them one more week, reports BSS.

On November 11, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari placed the councillor of Ward 33 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on a fresh four day remand in an arms case filed with Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka.

On November 4, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayeed sent Rajib to jail after the end of his remand in two cases filed against him under the arms and narcotics acts.

Police on that day also filed a report against the councillor saying he established a reign of terror in and around Mohammadpur and Adabor areas through his gang.

Terming him the “sultan of the crime world” in those areas, police said Rajib amassed huge wealth by land grabbing and extortion, using his armed cadres.

On October 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara placed Rajib on a seven day remand in arms and narcotics cases.

On October 19, RAB arrested Rajib from a flat in Bashundhara Residential Area.

They seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a foreign made pistol, a magazine

with three bullets, Tk33,000 in cash, and a passport from that flat.

On October 20, RAB handed Rajib over to Bhatara police station filing two cases against him.
