A writ petition has been filed at the High Court seeking Tk10 crore as compensation for the family of Nayeemul Abrar, a ninth-grader who was electrocuted during an event at Dhaka Residential Model College (DRMC) on November 1.

The petition has sought directives from the court in collecting the compensation money from national daily Prothom Alo, reports UNB.

Lawyer Faizur Rahman, who filed the petition on behalf of the deceased’s family, also urged the court to issue directives to other defendants to take action against Prothom Alo.

Secretaries to power, information and education ministries, Power Development Board, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd, Dhaka Electric Supply Authority, Prothom Alo’s publisher and editor, and editor of Prothom Alo's youth magazine Kishor Alo were made respondents in the writ.

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman will hear the petition on Sunday, said Faizur.

Nayeemul died after being electrocuted behind the stage during an event organized by Kishor Alo at DRMC on November 1.

His father Md Mojibur Rahman later filed a case at the court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque, blaming the organizers of negligence for the death of his son.
