The High Court has rejected bail petitions to Rafiul Islam Rabbi and Nazmul Hasan in Barguna's Rifat Sharif murder case

The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman dropped the bail petition from its cause list on Tuesday.

Advocate Jahangir Kabir and Advocate Md Sagir Hossain stood for the accused, while Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah represented the state.

Of the two accused, Nazmul, 14, is a tenth-grade student.

On October 15, a Barguna court rejected Nazmul’s bail application. Later, a petition was filed on October 27 with the High Court seeking bail.

Rifat Sharif, who was an internet service provider, was hacked to death on June 26 in Barguna in public, in front of his wife Minni

The following day, Rifat’s father Dulal Sharif filed a murder case accusing 12 people.

Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, the prime accused in the case, was killed in an alleged gunfight with police on July 2.

Minni was arrested on July 16 for her alleged involvement in the fatal attack on Rifat. On August 29, the High Court granted Minni bail on the condition that she would remain in her father’s custody, and would not speak to the media.

Police on September 1 pressed charges against Minni, and 23 others for their alleged involvement in the murder.

Police submitted the charge sheet divided into two segments, one for the 14 juveniles accused, and the other for the 10 adults accused.

Minni’s name was seventh on the list of adults accused.

She was later arrested as initial evidence pointed to her involvement in the killing.
