Another sent to jail in Abrar murder case

Setu's name was not mentioned in the case file, but many accused took his name in their confessional statements.

A Dhaka court has sent another accused to jail in a case filed over the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter passed the order on Saturday, when investigation officer (IO) and also Detective Branch (DB) if Police Inspector Wahiduzzaman produced Setu before the court after completion of his four-day remand.

Metropolitan Magistrate Jasim Uddin placed Setu on a four-day remand on October 28. DB arrested him from Bangla Motor area in Dhaka on October 27, reports BSS.

DB sources said although Setu's name was not there in the case filed over the gruesome murder, but many accused have taken his name in their confessional statements.

Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.

Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours and   beating him to death, after accusing him of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Later, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station.
