Mizan has been accused of beating his roommate Abrar Fahad to death inside a Buet hall on the night of October 6
A Dhaka court has sent Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan to jail, an accused in the case filed over Buet student Abrar Fahad’s murder, when police produced him after completion of his five-day remand on Tuesday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order as case investigation officer and Detective Branch Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman produced him before the court, and pleaded to keep him behind bars, reports BSS.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah placed Mizan, who was also a roommate of Abrar, on five-day remand on October 23.
He was arrested from Room-1011 of Buet's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 10, and was sent to jail the next day.
Abrar, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on October 7.
Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him to death after falsely accusing him of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
On the same day, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case with Chawkbazar police station.
Abrar’s death sparked massive protests all across Bangladesh, with the protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
Till date, 20 people have been arrested in connection to Abrar's murder.
