With Setu, 21 people have been arrested so far in connection with the case
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Md Wahidud Zaman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court on Monday.
The IO, however, placed a seven days remand prayer to interrogate Setu.
Earlier, DB police arrested Setu, graduated from the Chemical Engineering Department of the university, in Dhaka's Banglamotor area on Sunday evening.
During primary investigation, Setu said he was a 14th batch student of Buet and completed his Bachelor of Science this April.
DB officials said he used to stay at the Room Number 2012 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and works at a pharmaceutical company in Manikganj as a chemical engineer.
Although his name was not cited in the first information report, Setu was detained based on confessional statements of the other arrestees and relevant evidences in connection with Abrar murder.
With Setu, 21 people have been detained so far in connection with the case.
What happened to Abrar Fahad?
Abrar Fahad, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours, and beating him to death, after accusing him of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station in the evening of October 7.
