Mizan was transferred to the Moulvibazar court and issued the remand on Thursday
A Moulvibazar court has placed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward Councillor Habibur Rahman Mizan on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the Arms Act.
The Moulvibazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Abdullah Mohammad Salehi issued the five-day remand after Alamgir Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sreemangal police station, produced Mizan before the court and pleaded to place him on seven-day remand on Thursday, confirmed Md Abdul Hai, inspector of the court.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Sreemangal police station OC Abdul Salek said: "Mizan was transferred to the Moulvibazar court and issued the remand on Thursday."
"On October 20, the DNCC councillor was sent to Dhaka jail after completion of his seven-day remand in another case filed under the Money Laundering Prevention Act," the OC added.
Mizan, councillor of DNCC's ward 32 and the former general secretary of Awami League's Mohammadpur unit, was detained in Sreemangal on October 11 while he was trying to flee to India.
As part of the ongoing crackdown on casinos, RAB members raided his residence located on Aurangazeb Road in Mohammadpur, and recovered cheques worth Tk6.77 crore, and Tk1 crore in FDR.
