He was arrested by RAB-4 on Saturday
BNP Vice-Chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has been released on bail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam granted the bail after the investigation officer (IO) of the case Sub Inspector (SI) Noor-E-Alam of Pallabi police station appealed for a seven-day remand on Sunday.
The BNP leader’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder confirmed the matter.
After hearing the remand plea, the court dismissed it and released Hafiz on bail.
A team of RAB-4 arrested Hafiz at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he landed from Singapore on Saturday evening, Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pallabi police station, said.
Later, the elite force handed him over to Pallabi police station at 8:30pm, the OC said.
BNP condemns the arrest
Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Hafiz returned home after receiving medical treatment in Singapore, reports UNB.
As he reached the airport, Rizvi said, the law enforcers arrested him.
"We strongly condemn and protest his arrest. We demand the government immediately release him after withdrawing the case filed against him," he said.
