A Dhaka court has sent Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club President Shafiqul Alam Firoz to jail in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order as Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 2 Sub-Inspector (SI) Jasim Uddin, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court on Thursday after completing three-day remand in the case.

In his petition, the IO said: "The accused gave important information during interrogation and that should not be disclosed for the sake of the proper investigation of the case. So, he needs to remain in jail for a proper investigation."

On the other hand, defence lawyer Masud Ahamed Chowdhury filed a bail petition mentioning that his client was not involved in the said offence.

After hearing from both sides, the court rejected the bail petition and ordered to send the accused to jail.

On October 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Mohammad Noman placed Shafiqul Alam Firoz, also a leader of Bangladesh Krishak League, on a fresh three-day remand in the narcotics case.

Firoz was remanded for five days by a Dhaka court on September 30 in another case lodged against him for possessing illegal arms.

RAB filed the two cases against Firoz with Dhanmondi police station on September 21.

He was placed on a 10-day remand by another Dhaka court on the same day in the two cases.

On September 20, RAB members detained the Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club president before raiding the club in search of an illegal casino.
