Crackdown on casinos: Arman shown arrested in narcotics case

Expelled Jubo League leader Enamul Haque Arman, also the right-hand man of alleged casino kingpin Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, has been shown arrested in a narcotics case in Comilla.

Police produced Enamul with the 140 yaba pills seized during his arrest at the court of Comilla Cognizance Court Senior Magistrate Rokeya Akter on Thursday.

Later, he was taken to the Comilla Central Jail.

Earlier on Sunday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested now expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Ismail Chowdhury Samrat, and his accomplice Arman from Comilla.

Arman along with Samrat were arrested from Chauddagram upazila of the district, confirmed RAB Director (Legal and Media Wing) Lt Colonel Sarwar Din Quasem.

Hours after their arrest, these two were jailed by a mobile court for six months each, on charges of wildlife law violations, and drunkenness, respectively.

Samrat with his accomplice Arman, went into hiding after being suspected of running illegal casinos. On September 24, Police Headquarters issued a travel ban against him.

The involvement of Jubo League leaders in overseeing illicit gambling operations came to light after the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) uncovered illegal casino businesses from raids on Young Men's Club, Wanderers Club, and Muktijoddha Krira Chakra on September 18.

Since September 18, RAB and police have raided different clubs across Bangladesh, busting illegal casinos. A number of people, including Jubo league leaders, were detained after the raids, and then shown arrested.
