A Dhaka court sent online casino kingpin Salim Prodhan to jail, rejecting his bail petition in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masudur Rahman gave the order on Tuesday when Gulshan police station Officer-in-Charge (operation) Md Aminul Islam, the investigation officer (IO) for the case, produced him in court after a four day remand.
Salim's associates-- Md Aktaruzzaman and Md Roman-- were also sent to jail after their four-day remand in the same case.
General recording officer of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rokibul Hasan, confirmed the matter.
Salim was arrested from a Bangkok-bound Thai Airways flight at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on September 30.
The Rapid Action Battalion or RAB, then raided his office cum residence in Gulshan, and arrested Salim’s associates Aktaruzzaman, Md Roman, and Masum.
RAB also recovered 48 bottles of foreign liquor, Tk2,905,000 in local currency, foreign currencies of 23 different countries worth Tk7,763,023, twelve passports, 32 cheque books of 13 banks, one large server used in game operating, four laptops, and two deer hides.
On October 1, Salim and the three were jailed for six months under the Wildlife Conservation Act by a mobile court.
