A Dhaka court has granted bail to three BNP leaders in a case filed for alleged giving death threats to Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiqui.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order after they surrendered before the court and sought bail on Tuesday.

The leaders are BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.

On August 6, the High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman asked four BNP leaders to surrender before a lower court within six weeks after AB Siddiqui, president of pro-Awami League organization Jananetri Parishad, lodged the case on August 5, alleging that the BNP leaders and activists were threatening him.

After the case was filed, the metropolitan magistrate issued an arrest warrant for nine BNP leaders and activists, including party acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

The other accused are BNP Chairperson's Adviser Amanullah Aman, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, dismissed Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet) faculty member Hafizur Rahman Rana and Chhatra Dal leader Emdadul Haque Bhuiyan.

According to the case statement, Rana had sent a letter to Siddiqui on July 23 by post, threatening to kill him in the name of Islamic State.

Later, he lodged a general diary with Hatirjheel police station seeking security.
