Mohammadpur unit Chhatra League President MujahidAzmiTanna has secured anticipatory bail in a case filed for attempting to snatch 212 goats in Dhaka.

The High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM KuddusZaman passed the order on Monday.

Advocate AnjumanAra Begum Munni stood in for the plaintiff, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Earlier on August 11, RAB-2 Senior Warrant Officer M Farukh Hossain filed a case with Mohammadpur police station against Tanna, and eight other people.

According to the case statement, five goat traders brought a total of 212 goats in a truck from Jessore and Jhenaidah to Dhaka on August 11 to be sold ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

When they reached Mohammadpur's Babar Road, they were taken to Johuri Mahalla along with their truck and kept confined to a club there.

Later, a RAB patrol team rescued the traders along with the truckload of goats.

They also detained three alleged snatchers – Yasir Arafat, Jahidul Islam and Mohammad Raihan -- from the spot and handed them over to police.

Later, they were placed on a three-day remand when they confessed to their crime, said Sajib Ghosh, investigation officer of the case.

He said ChhatraLeague men set up a makeshift cattle market by their office at Babar Road, and extorted money from traders after holding them hostage.

“Traders were also forced to take goats to their cattle market,” he said.
