Khaleda’s trial to start in another case

The case was filed for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu

A Dhaka court has transferred a case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia lodged for making derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the current government. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman passed the order on Sunday.

The court is ready to start the proceedings, said a court official. 

On March 20, the court issued an arrest warrant against Khaleda. 

The case was filed by Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui on January 25, 2017, for allegedly making derogatory remarks at a rally at Dhaka’s Institution of Engineers on December 31, 2016.

After recording statement of the plaintiff, the court had asked the Shahbagh police station authorities to submit a report in this regard. 

“The court had issued an arrest warrant against the BNP chief and she secured bail in the case from High Court. Now any metropolitan magistrate court can hold hearings of the case,” court official Rakibul Hasan said.
