A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk5 crore compensation for the family of Taslima Begum Renu, who was lynched by mob on suspicion of being a child abductor.
Supreme Court Lawyer Ishrat Hasan filed the writ on Sunday morning.
In the petition he also sought the court’s directives on the government to give Tk10 lakh of the compensation to Renu’s family within 15 days.

Ishrat, in the petition, also pleaded to the court order the government to take action to remove posts containing romours from Facebook.
Secretaries of Cabinet, Home, Law, Information ministries, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner, and Badda police station officer-in-charge were made respondents in the writ.
Apart from urging the court to issue an order to enact separate law regarding lynching incidents, the petitioner also pleaded to the High Court to issue a rule asking to why inaction of the respondents should not be declared illegal.

Ishrat Hasan told Dhaka Tribune: “The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal will hear the petition next Sunday [August 4].
On July 20, Taslima Begum Renu was beaten to death by a mob in Dhaka's North Badda over rumours of being a child kidnapper.
As of now, at least 14 people have been arrested in connection with the murder.
