3 JMB men sent to 10 years in jail

The verdict was reached ten years after RAB lodged a case against them

A Chapainawabganj court has sentenced three members of banned militant outfit Jamaatul-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 10 years of imprisonment each, in an arms case.

The convicts are Md Selim alias Harun Mistry, 37, from Charmahan in the municipality area, Shahadat alias Nayan, 42, from Nimtola Kathal in Gomastapur upazila, and Abdul Momin, 34, from Kaysadiar of the same upazila. 

Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Ali delivered the verdict on Wednesday afternoon, with the accused present at the dock. 

Upon failing to pay a fine of Tk10,000, the convicts were also sentenced to an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment. 

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive and arrested Selim from Jaharpur Bakripara area in sadar upazila on July 7, 2009.

Acting on the information he provided, RAB arrested Shahadat and Momin.

RAB filed a case with sadar police station on July 8, 2009.

Later, Sub-Inspector Kamrul Islam, also the investigating officer, submitted the charge sheet accusing the three on March 30, 2016. 

The final verdict was reached ten years after the case was lodged.
