All accused in the case filed over the fire incident are now in bail
A Dhaka court has granted bail to Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul in a case filed over the FR Tower fire that killed 27 people in March.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order on Sunday, after hearing a bail petition.
Liaquat's lawyer SK Abu Sayeed, while applying for bail, said: “Mukul is nearly 60, and he is in poor health condition. If he gets bail, he will not flee and also not misuse the bail.
“Mukul will appear before the court on the fixed dates of the case, so he can be granted bail.”
The other accused of the case, FR Tower's illegal floor owner Tasvir Ul Islam and land owner SMHI Faruque secured bail earlier on April 11 and May 6. With Liaquat's bail, all accused in this case are now in bail.
Banani police Sub-Inspector (SI) Milton Datta filed the case, accusing the three people on March 30.
A devastating fire at Banani's FR Tower on March 28 killed 27 people and injured many more.
