The apex court also asked why DIG Mizan has not been arrested yet
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has commented on the bribe scam of Deputy Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Khandaker Enamul Basir.
“Why has not DIG Mizanur Rahman been arrested for the corruption case?“ the court asked ACC lawyer on Sunday.
The court asked if DIG Mizan was more powerful than the ACC, and commented on the incapability of arresting him.
The four member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain asked the question while hearing an appeal filed by the ACC challenging a High Court verdict that granted permanent bail to Hall-Mark Group Chairman Jasmine Islam in a graft case.
The court cancelled the High Court order that granted permanent bail to Jasmine in a corruption case and ordered to surrender within four weeks, the ACC lawyer informed.
Kurshid Alam khan said: “Along with other inquiries the court asked me about the allegations against one of our (ACC) officers, which is alarming for the whole country.
“In reply I said punitive actions are being taken.”
The court then replied asking what kind of punitive action was being taken that nothing is done against bribing and leaking information.
The lawyer then said: “We need to investigate before taking any action against bribe transactions after which I can only file an FIR (first information report.
“We cannot go beyond rules and law.”
The lawyer said the ACC is lawfully looking into the matter with great importance.
