Rasel lost a leg in a Green Line bus accident in Dhaka last year
The High Court has ordered Green Line Paribahan to give either partial or the full compensation of TK45 lakh to Rasel Sarker by May 22 on Wednesday.
The bench of Justices FRM Nazmul Ahasan and KM Kamrul Quader passed the order on Wednesday.
Rasel Sarkar, who lost his leg in an accident in the city's Dholaipar on April 28 last year involving a bus of the company. Green Line had already paid him Tk5 lakh Later in April.
The court told the Green Line lawyer: “At least pay a partial amount within May 18/19. We will then consider your side of the arguments.”
Advocate Khandaker Shamsul Haque Reza and Advocate Ummey Kulsum Smrity stood for the writ petitioner while Advocate Ojiullah represented the Green Line.
Shamsul Haque said Green Line sought time as its owner is sick and the court gave them time until May 22 to pay the full amount or at least a partial amount of the compensation.
Rasel told Dhaka Tribune that Green Line has paid for his prosthetic leg at CRP. “I thank them for that but it is exhausting for me to come so far to court so frequently during my rehabilitation process with a wheelchair,” he added.
On April 28 last year, a luxury Green Line coach rear-ended the car Rasel was driving. The accident occurred on the slope of Mayor Md Hanif Flyover in Dholaipar, and caused Rasel to step outside of his car to assess the damage.
Although he signalled the bus not to drive away, bus driver Kabir Hossain, in his attempt to flee the scene, ran over Rasel, severing his left leg from the thigh down in the process.
After being informed, police impounded the bus and detained Kabir from near the National Press Club
