Jahangir was arrested with three firearms and Tk17 lakh cash from his house in 2017
Jahangir Alam, chairman of Pekua upazila in Cox's Bazar, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in an arms case.
Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Khandakar Hassan Mohammad Firoz passed the order on Thursday.
According to court sources, Jahangir was arrested with arms from his residence in 2017.
Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said: “RAB [Rapid Action Battalion] arrested Jahangir with three firearms and Tk17 lakh in cash from his residence on August 13, 2017.
“The court declined his plea for bail after he was produced before it in the arms case and gave him a 14-year jail sentence.”
