The main accused in a case filed over the rape of a 17-year-old girl of Pakistani origin accepted the charges against him in a confessional statement before a court on Sunday afternoon.

Al-Amin's brother Sumon was also produced before the court on the same day, and sent to jail, Gopalpur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sadequr Rahman, also investigation officer of the case, confirmed on Monday evening.
"While on remand, Al Amin confessed to raping the girl and her passport has been recovered based on his information," said SI Sadequr.
"On April 24, police had produced the main accused Al Amin and his brother Sumon before the court and sought a seven-day remand period, but the court granted a four-day remand," he added.
On the same day, the rape survivor, with help from a translator, gave her statement before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Nawrin Mahbub under Section 22 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
On April 23, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Al Amin from Kurigram.
On April 16, Al Amin and his friends abducted the girl from Tangail’s Gopalpur upazila. He reportedly decided to rape the girl after her mother rejected his proposal to marry the teenager.
The next day, police rescued the girl from the Mahishakandi area of Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur.
The girl’s mother filed a case against three people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act the same day.
