On March 30, 2015, 27-year-old blogger and online activist Oyasiqur Rahman Babu, was brutally hacked to death by three cleaver-wielding youths on his way to office in the capital’s Tejgaon Industrial area in broad daylight

Although four years have lapsed after the brutal killing of blogger Oyasiqur Rahman Babu in the outskirts of the capital, no significant progress has been made in this case.

The court on Tuesday deferred recording the depositions of witnesses till April 30 against five members of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in a case filed over the murder of blogger Oyasiqur Rahman on March 30, 2015.

Judge Md Robiul Alam, Dhaka’s third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judges Court, fixed the fresh date as the prosecution failed to produce witnesses for deposition on the day.

The five accused are ABT men Zikrullah alias Hasan, Ariful Islam, and Saiful Islam, Akram Hossain Hasib and Junayed alias Taher.

Akram and Junayed are absconding while rest of the three accused are now in jail.

Since 2016, the court recorded 22 of 40 prosecution witness statements in the murder case of secular activist Oyasiqur.

The trial progress is slow because the prosecution is struggling to bring witnesses to court.

On March 30, 2015, 27-year-old blogger and online activist Oyasiqur Rahman Babu, was brutally hacked to death by three cleaver-wielding youths on his way to office in the capital’s Tejgaon Industrial area in broad daylight.

On September 2, 2015, Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet against five members of banned militant outfit ABT in a case filed with Tejgaon Industrial police station.

On July 20, 2016, Third Additional Metropolitan Session’s Judges Court in Dhaka framed charges against five people, including mastermind of the killing Abdullah alias Md Akram Hossain known as “Boro Bhai” among the ABT members.
