HC summons Chapainawabganj judge

The judge reportedly did not comply with a High Court order

The High Court has summoned the Chapainawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 1 judge to appear before it on April 24.

The High Court bench of Justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the summoned order on Wednesday. 

The judge Md Liakat Ali Mollah was summoned for not complying with the High Court order over finishing the trial proceedings of a case filed for rape and murder of a woman.

On July 8, 2018, the judge was ordered to finish the trial proceedings of the case and to submit a report before it. But, the judge did not respond to the court directive till date. 

Assistant Attorney General Md Yousuf Mahmud Morshed stood for state. 

According to him, Chapainawabganj Sadar police station recovered the body of Ayesha Khatun, 20, daughter of Md Mofizur Rahman of Kalinagar Bablaban village under the Chapainawabganj sadar Upazila from a ditch on June 14, 2015.Police filed a case about the matter on August 9, 2015 accusing unknown persons for raping and killing the girl.

Police arrested Nayan Karmakar Rabidas of the Charvagdanga village in connection with the murder on September 15, 2015.

The case is currently pending at the Chapainawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 1.

While hearing a bail petition filed by Nayan, the High Court bench on July 8 last year ordered the judge of the tribunal to finish the trial proceedings of the case and submit a report within four months. 

As the tribunal did not complete the trial proceedings of the case, Nayan, recently submitted another petition to the court seeking bail in the case. After hearing the petition the court summoned Judge Liakat.
