Accused sentenced to life imprisonment for raping teen

The case procurement says state will bear expenses of rape survivor's daughter until daughter is married

A Chuadanga court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after being convicted of raping a teen of Sultanpur village in Damurhuda upazila.

Special Prosecutor Zia Haider, of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, gave the judgment on Sunday noon.

The convicted was Hashem Ali, 35, son of Bokul Mondol, and resident of Sultanpur village in Damurhuda upazila.

According to the case statement, on December 26, 2013, Hashem Ali raped a teen in the same village, making false promises of marriage.

Pregnant and with public knowledge of the incident,on August 12 ,2014, the survivor filed a case at a local court.

Deputy Inspector of Damurhuda Police Station, Anwar Hossain, investigated the matter on court order.

On February 1, 2018, following a DNA test, the inspector filed a charge-sheet accusing Hashem Ali of rape in Chuadanga court.

Considering the DNA test results, the court sentenced Hashem Ali to life imprisonment and fined him 10000 taka and an extra year of imprisonment, if the fine is not paid.

The case procurement also says the state will bear the expenses of the survivor's daughter until the daughter is married.
