HC questions authorities’ negligence to curb mosquito menace at Dhaka airport

In the rule, the court sought explanation as to why the negligence and inactivity of authorities concerned would not be declared illegal

The High Court on Tuesday questioned the negligence of the authorities concerned in curbing the mosquito menace at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

A bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by the Supreme Court lawyer Md Tanvir Ahmed.

Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Basar has been asked to respond to the question.

The court also issued a rule seeking explanation from the respondents as to why it should not direct urgent measures to curb mosquitoes from the Dhaka airport.

In the rule, the court also sought explanation as to why the negligence and inactivity of authorities concerned would not be declared illegal.

The respondents including the secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor were asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
