Five get life term for murder in Pabna

In 2009, Abu Sayeed was taken away from his house and murdered by his friends in Kumargari village of Ataikula thana

A Pabna court convicted five people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment in connection with Abu Sayeed’s murder case in 2009.

Pabna Additional District and Session Judge, Rustom Ali, handed down the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.

The convicts are Abdus Salam, alias Khokon, Masud Rana, and Shahin of Ataikula thana, and Shukur Ali Mollah and Saiful Islam Kanchan of Sujanagar upazila.

The court also fined them Tk1.5 lakh each, or in default, to suffer one year and six months more in rigorous imprisonment.

Ataikula police station Sub-Inspector (SI), Akhter Ali, filed the charge sheet in court on February 28, 2010, against seven accused.

The prosecution could not prove the involvement of two accused in the case and the court gave the verdict on their acquittal. At the time of the verdict, the two men were present in court.

According to the case details, on the night of April 13, 2009, Abu Sayeed was taken away from his house in Kumargari village of Ataikula thana and murdered by his friends.

The next day, Abu’s brother Rabiul, filed a murder case with Ataikula police station against seven people.
