A Jessore court has sentenced two people, each, to 14 years of imprisonment for abducting a schoolgirl in 2006.

After examining records and consulting witnesses, the Jessore Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge TM Musa handed down the verdict on Wednesday, reports UNB.

The convicts are Wasim Sheikh, son of Ibad Ali Babul Morol.

The court also fined the two convicts Tk10,000 each, or in default, to suffer two more years of rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the convicts, along with two other associates, abducted a class IX student of Purakhali Secondary School of Abhoynagar upazila on September 29, 2006.

When the girl’s father filed a case with Abhoynagar police station, they rescued her.

The police submitted chargesheet against the four people in the case.

However, the court acquitted the two other accused as the allegations brought against them were not proven.
